Week 2: Journal Entry 2

The seven scientific principles of relativism, objectivity, parsimony, empiricism, skepticism, ethical neutrality, and determinism align with cybersecurity. Relativism provides the understanding that all things in the cybersecurity field are related; changes in one system change things in others. Any change in societal, educational, political, technological, criminal justice, critical infrastructure, or healthcare systems will change cybersecurity. Objectivity requires cybersecurity professionals to have an unbiased approach when conducting research. The principle of parsimony ensures that others can easily understand cybersecurity research and protocols. Empiricism declares that all cybersecurity data must come from empirical research only, mitigating erroneous conclusions. Skepticism encourages open-mindedness, leading to rigorous inquiry and scientific integrity needed in cybersecurity. Ethical neutrality requires cybersecurity professionals to observe all laws and ethical standards to protect privacy and stay within legal boundaries. Finally, determinism provides the understanding that all cybersecurity events result from human behaviors, and identifying the causes of these behaviors will enhance security protocols. This scientific framework provides the principles required to have a vigorous cybersecurity strategy.
