These were: configuring system updates; making sure the Time Zone on the server was set correctly; creating a Static IP Address for the server; activating Remote Desktop so it could be administered from anywhere; and finally, Installing Windows Admin Center. Additionally, I established a connection to the server via Windows Admin Center and experimented with managing various aspects of the server (roles), specifically Active Directory Certificate Services. These steps are very relevant to what a System Administrator does within a Windows Server environment. Updates will help keep your system stable and secure, while having the correct time settings will allow you to accurately log events. A static IP address will provide consistent network communications and ensure that your Domain Name Service (DNS) works properly, both of which are critical to successfully running an Active Directory-based environment. Finally, being able to remotely access your server via Remote Desktop will greatly enhance the ability of an administrator to effectively manage numerous servers across a wide area, such as in a large organization. Finally, by installing and learning how to use Windows Admin Center, I gained practical experience using centralized tools for managing servers. Centralized tools like Windows Admin Center enable administrators of Enterprises to manage multiple servers simultaneously from one location to improve productivity and lower administrative overhead. Overall, this lab improved my knowledge of all aspects of managing a Windows Server (including Network Communications and Remote Administration); Security Practices Used in Real-World IT and Cybersecurity Environments.

CYSE-608-Hands-On-Lab-Report-3Download

Through the completion of this lab, I have become familiar with configuring and managing the DNS and DHCP services in Windows Server 2019 as well as learning about the fundamental infrastructure services used by a network. The first step was to configure Static IP Address Settings. Next, I installed the DNS Server Role on the server. After installing the DNS Server Role, I created both a Forward Lookup Zone and a Reverse Lookup Zone. Following the creation of these zones, I performed an nslookup to test that DNS resolution is working properly. Finally, I created DHCP Scopes so devices would be able to automatically obtain their IP Addresses. All of these steps were critical because without functional DNS and DHCP service a network will experience difficulty communicating with one another. Without proper functioning DNS service, Active Directory cannot function properly and all devices connected to a domain will also have issues with management. Overall, through the completion of this lab; I feel like it has helped me learn the importance of Network Administration/Management, how to configure servers correctly, how to troubleshoot common problems associated with networks, and how centralizing your services can help create an environment which allows you to operate efficiently while maintaining security.

08-_-Research-Assignment_-Remote-Desktop-ServicesDownload

I researched in this paper how User Profile Disk (UPD) technology helps create a better user experience for users in Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services (RDS). I was looking at how UPD technology provides users with their own customized applications and desktop environment settings, which they can use from session to session; as well as how users can maintain their own custom profile from one remote session to another. The study covered both an overview of the benefits of using User Profile Disk technology as well as what are some common challenges or issues that administrators have when it comes to managing the disk space, performance and centralized management. An additional part of this study was to review best practices for securing user data by providing different ways to limit who has access to the data, encrypting data while in transit or at rest, backing up and protecting the user’s information. Overall, this study helped me understand many aspects of enterprise-level system administration, cloud computing and cyber security practices related to Windows Server operating systems.

06-_-Research-Assignment_-Group-Policy-1Download

The group policy assignment allowed me to look into the role of Group Policy in managing user account, security settings, and systems configuration in Windows server environment. While conducting research on GPO’s, OUs, and centralized administration, I was able to gain further insight on how organization can ensure that there is consistency throughout their network while also automating administrative tasks for users and ensuring the security of an entire enterprise network. In addition to gaining knowledge of how organizations manage their enterprise networks using centralized administration through group policies, this assignment also looked at some of the challenges faced when implementing group policies such as the complexity of creating multiple policies and the impact it could have on overall system performance. Additionally, the assignment also discussed many of the best practices of group policies which include testing, filtering, and delegating. This course has greatly increased my knowledge of cybersecurity by illustrating the support centralized policy management provides toward security, compliance and administrative efficiency for organizations utilizing Windows based systems in today’s enterprise computing environment.

During this course I was able to gain foundational knowledge in Windows Server Administration and Enterprise Network Management through this course.
