The major I chose to pursue here at Old Dominion University is cyber operations. It relates to cyber security technology by being described as a deeply technical program with opportunities for hands-on learning with technical labs and practices. Techniques emphasized in this major are exploitation, encryption, ethical hacking and many more. These techniques are useful for many intelligence, military and agencies who suffer from cyber warfare. Technology these days are very advanced and there are many international organizations that use different cyber techniques to gain access to U.S. law enforcement information. I am aware that the major cyber operations is mostly technical, so I can get to enhance my knowledge on the different computer languages I am already familiar with.
Four other majors offered by Old Dominion University that relate to cyber security technology are cyber crime, information systems & technology, computer science and computer engineering. Cyber crime relates to cyber security because it is the study of how technology has the ability to commit crimes. Information systems & technology relates to cyber security technology because it grants the opportunity for students to practice technical skills that include cloud security and web security. Those technical skills are the same skills that are taught in cyber security technology. Computer science relates to cyber security because it includes the study of computer concepts and programming concepts.
Cyber security technology consists of programming skills and concepts, it enlightens students on programming topics that are also discussed in computer science such as functions, algorithms, coding and programming languages. Computer engineering relates to cyber security by involving an understanding of computer systems in their curriculum. In cyber security, a deep understanding of computer systems is necessary to prevent data breaches and attacks. Cyber operations and all these other majors are all related to each other because of computer systems. It was crucial to establish all these majors because with a computer, anything is possible.
