Cyber technology is not technology itself but it is the people. The people use the network, software and computers to their advantage. Cyber security in the workplace creates an environment where people get accustomed to certain risks and vulnerabilities their company holds. “Common sense” plays a role in workplace deviance as certain cyber basics have incorporated itself into general knowledge that everyone allegedly already know. For example, spam e-mail from scammers and cyber criminals is considered basic knowledge nowadays with advancing technology. Some companies even notify their consumers that there are scammers out in the world that will send an email that looks exactly like one a company would send to its customers. Some businesses even tell their customers that they will never ask for personal information in e-mails.
That is how a lot of people know about spam emails, through companies informing people and some spam e-mails do not look realistic either. Since knowing about spam e-mails is something that apparently everyone knows, companies may not choose to go over that topic in the cyber security policies. Not going every topic in the cyber security policy is not usual, companies usually go over everything stated in their cyber policies. Some workers get accustomed to not hearing about spam e-mails because it is assumed they already know about them. Even when they see one they just brush it off and go about their day, but what if there is a worker who does not know about spam e-mails?
A worker who does not know about spam e-mails is likely to respond to one and get scammed. The worker may even be tricked into giving out the companies information and data. Now the company has the potential to have a data breach, and when it does, the workers are going to be in shock. Technology is used by many people these days, it has because a norm. So people are quick to learn the basics about the use of technology, so with internet scammers always around people get used to them especially in the workplace. Nevertheless, companies should not be used to these scammers and should always go over all the cyber vulnerabilities and risks there are with using a network.
