This semester I am excited about making new friends and learning how to adjust to college life. My biggest challenge this semester is being able to get everything organized. When everything isn’t organized I tend to go nuts, but I want to try to find a process that will help me organize all my due dates, tests, quizzes, etc. I don’t plan on working or doing any extra circulars this semester unless I’m on Christmas break. That way I will be able to focus on school and be able to have time to get things done. In high school I played varsity tennis for all four years. I also joined DECA and participated in local events. Right now I don’t plan on joining any clubs because I don’t want to overload myself with all the school work and then having to do activities for the club. I’m still on the fence about joining clubs or not.
My intended major is nursing. I chose this major because I love helping people and I wanted to learn more about the medical field. Some abilities I have are being able to care for people or staying calm in a crazy situation. As of now I’m on the fence if I still want to do nursing just because I think I’m more interested in investigation or crime events. The only experience that I do have is with customer service. I know how to handle people that aren’t always nice. Other than that I don’t have that much experience. My career goal is to have a job by the time I get out of college that I love and will be able to support my future family and I. My hope is to stay with my job for a long time whether that be in the medical field or the investigation area.
The biggest difference between high school and college will definitely be the workload. In high school I got straight A’s every year. I think that I could achieve that again in college, but there will be a lot more work to handle/take care of. There is a difference between studying and homework because studying for example is looking over your notes for a test or quiz. Homework is assignments that you do in order to help you get more practice on what you’re learning. I have Chemistry, Interpreting the American past, Sociology, Health 101,Chemistry lab and I choose to spend 3 hours a week for each class to study. I also have an English class online and I plan to spend more time than 3 hours just because I have to watch a video, do the work and study. I plan to study either in my room or in the study room in Owens house(somewhere quiet). The distractions for me will be looking at my phone or not being motivated to study. My plan is to silence my phone and set it aside and to get my work done as soon as I get it that way I will be able to stay motivated and not procrastinate. The best time of day to study for me is afternoon into night time. I think I’ve been used to going to school and then getting home and doing homework which is usually late afternoon into the night. My study techniques will be to look over my notes, write down any questions I have and to work in a quiet space so I can focus.
