Study Habits
- What classes are you doing well in, and why?
I am doing really well in my literature class. The class is very simple as we read a few different articles a week and write an analysis on the ones we find most interesting. Every class we discuss the articles that we had to read for that day.
- What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?
I need assistance with chemistry. I didn’t do well on my first two exams so for the next two I have to do really well.
- What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)?
I have been watching videos online to further explain the topics, i’ve studied in the library instead of in my room so there’s no distractions and also paid more attention in lecture.
Transition to College
- What expectations did you have coming to college?
I expected to be really busy. I worried alot about making good friends coming into college. I also expected to never go home on the weekends.
- Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?
I am busy but i have learned how to manage my time, ive made such amazing friends since being here, i also go home pretty much every weekend.
- How? I really just let things happen the way they did and just had the mindset of whatever happens, happens.
- In what way is your college experience different from what you expected? I thought the school work was going to be unbearable and that was all i was going to be able to do and while i do spend a lot of time studying and doing assignments i have a lot of free time as well
- What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester? I’m not sure if anything has really surprised me. I was surprised by how many food options we have here on campus.
- If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?
The hardest thing about being away at college is not being able to go see my family whenever I want. The easiest challenge to overcome was finding my way around campus.
- OR If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?
Major
- Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.
I learned that there is a test you can take before applying to the program.
- Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.
I still really am passionate about dental hygiene but i am worried about getting into the program.
- Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?
I have thought about becoming a health administration major or just a health science major.
Connecting to Campus
- Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation. I had a really bad health situation at the beginning of October come up but the student health services staff were so helpful.
- Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you? My roommate is amazing. She has helped me so much this semester by being someone I can talk to about anything or when I’m stressed about school she encourages me to just do my best.
- Have you attended an interesting meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved? I went through sorority recruitment, i decided to rush because i wanted to find lifelong friends and make an impact on the community
