My Major:
Nursing BSN
Why did I choose Nursing?
I chose nursing because I knew I wanted to pursue something in the medical field along with always wanting to help others and give back to my community in some way. I looked into and thought about going into the dental field, but something didn’t quite fit, I wanted something more I think, more of a connection with the patient maybe. In high school, I absolutely loved my biology class freshman year. I was fascinated by it all, it came easy to me. I think it was during this class where I thought about a career in the medical field would be great. I then signed up for the nursing class and I loved it! I had such a great teacher – she inspired me. My plans are to specialize in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse. I would like to continue my education and become a Nurse Practitioner.
Experience:
- I took Exploring Health Sciences and Exploring the Language of Medicine DE in high school as well as Nursing 1 and 2
- I participated in a 40 hour clinical at a local Long-term Care Facility where I worked with CNAs, MAs, and RNs to help the elderly that need extra support with their Activities of Daily Living
- I am qualified to take the Virginia Certified Nursing Assistant Exam, which I plan on taking very soon
