SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Before taking this class I thought it was going to be the hardest thing I have ever done in life. Growing up I only spoke one language which was english. My first day I was so nervous. I remember professor Fermin asking me a question in Spanish and I had no clue what he was talking about. As weeks went on, I started to develop an understand of Spanish. Ever time I learned a new saying/ word I was so excited to use it. I will tell my friends what I had learned and then we will all use it. What I would do to better understand the language is use flashcards. Lingrolearning also helped me a lot with learning. Speaking Spanish could be difficult especially when Im rolling my tongue to pronounce certain words.

Engaging in Communities

Back at home, I Lived around lots of hispanic’s. After learning Spanish, I could communicate better with them. They were also proud that I could speak Spanish.

Interpersonal Communication

Through its online platform, Lingrolearning, language students may practice their conversational skills with local speakers. I utilized Lingrolearning this semester to practice my Spanish in conversation. I engaged in interpersonal writing activities outside of Lingrolearning through discussion boards and peer review of written assignments. My oral and written Spanish communication abilities have improved as a result of these exercises.

I have found taking part in Lingrolearning dialogues to be both hard and enjoyable. I first struggled to follow up with the dialogue owing to my poor vocabulary and understanding of grammar. However, as we had more conversations, I became more at ease and assured in my ability to speak Spanish. I discovered how to actively listen to my spouse and, when necessary, get clarification from them. When I didn’t know a term, I was very good at expressing myself through circumlocution. I discovered how crucial it is to be able to modify my Spanish to fit various regional dialects.

Presentational Speaking

When I think back on this presentation, I realize that one of the main challenges was structuring our thoughts and delivering them in an organized and interesting way. We needed to make sure we kept to the time restriction and that each member of the group had an equal amount of speaking time. We overcome these obstacles, though, by breaking up the research and honing our separate portions before coming together for a group rehearsal.

To make my speech more flowing and natural, I wish I had spent more time working on my intonation and pronunciation. I would prioritize speaking more slowly and clearly in the future and improving my presentations’ grammar and vocabulary.

Presentational Writing

Upon reflection, I discovered that I have substantially improved my Spanish writing abilities. I can now communicate my thoughts in a clear, succinct manner using appropriate language and terminology. However, using more complex grammatical rules and idiomatic idioms is still difficult for me. I’ve been practicing with increasingly challenging phrase structures and getting feedback from my classmates and the lecturer to help me get through this challenge.

Incorporating cultural insights and specifics into my writing was one area in which I really excelled throughout this exercise. To make the text clearer and flexible, I might improve the arrangement and structure of it. I would put more effort into learning more complicated grammatical rules and sentence constructions in the future, as well as pay more attention to the organization of my work.

Interpretive Listening

Most of our listening activities was on LingroLearning. It’s where we match the pictures with the audio. They helped me better understand what was going on in the pictures. What they could do better is speak slower because we all beginners and speaking fast is not going to help us understand it. It going to make us confused.

Interpretive Reading

Overall, doing interpretative communication tasks like reading articles and tales in Spanish has improved my vocabulary and understanding, which has advanced me in my language learning process. I’ve discovered how to approach new information with an open mind and a want to learn, and I’m eager to advance my abilities in the future.
