Journal Entry #5

There are many varied factors that go into whatever motive someone had to commit a cybercrime. The motive that makes the most sense for someone to commit a cybercrime to me is for financial gain. Money is a very essential tool, and some people will go against the law to obtain it. The next motive that makes the most sense to me is political. These attacks are usually used to influence public opinion, these motives often have a wider goal bigger than for one’s own self gain. The next important motive is revenge. Wanting to cause harm to a specific audience for whatever reason is a big motivator for some people because of the emotional satisfaction they might feel after. The next motive on my list is recognition. Some people are motivated by showing off whatever skills they must to build a reputation. The next motive is entertainment. This is not a very smart motivation as there is not much gain besides the thrill of the challenge which does not make this a very logical motivation. Boredom does not make much sense to me either because there are so many other things you can do to entertain yourself and pass time. And the motive that makes the least sense to me is other reasons because it is a very wide category, and I do not know what else would motivate someone to partake in a cybercrime.
