Review the NICE Workforce Framework. Are there certain areas that you would want to
focus your career on? Explain which areas would appeal the most to you and which would
appeal the least.
The areas in the NIST Workforce Framework I’d ultimately like to work in are Design
and Development (DD) and Cyberspace Effects (CE). Both areas require a certain
level of creativity to explore, offering challenges and encouraging innovation. Being
able to explore concepts, design systems, plan capabilities, and execute with a
team highlights the importance of creative freedom of thought and emphasizes
efficiency. Working with a team for the common goal of defense is extremely
gratifying work that evokes fond memories of the work conducted during my time in
the U.S. Navy.
To excel in these areas, I’d need a solid foundation in the cybersecurity realm. I
believe the Implementation and Operation (IO) area would be the most beneficial
area to help foster my growth. Roles that highlight data analysis, administration,
and efficient operation of established security systems will help me gain footing
within the cybersecurity field and also play a more hands-on role with the persons
I’m supporting. This area’s work seems to be the most rewarding to me on a
personal and professional level.
