Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
Throughout this class I have had many activities and assignments that have helped me gain a better understanding of cultural perspectives, some examples are Talk abroad, Flipgrid videos, Discussion boards, conversation with my professor, and working with lingro learning.
Throughout these activities I was able to learn about the Spanish speaking culture in many different ways. The discussion boards allowed me to read an article or watch a video on a specific topic such as family culture, or how medical insurance is in Spain, reading these articles helped me understand the topics and then I was able to discuss with my classmates about what we think. I learned that Spanish families are very close and each person plays a role in the family, I learned that medical insurance in Spain covers everyone and I actually liked that concept better than the US medical insurance. The talk abroad, flipgrid, and conversations with my professor allowed me to learn through Spanish. For the talk abroad I was able to learn about someone’s culture through Spanish, I think this was my favorite activity as it allowed me to see into a world that I didn’t experience.
Engaging in Communities
It is very important to understand the importance of your own community because it allows you to value your community more. I believe its also good to learn more about other peoples communities as well, this allows you to expand your horizons and understand other people better.
Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.
Interpersonal Communication
During this class I was able to participate in TalkAbroad conversations. During these conversations i was able to talk to Spanish speaking people from other countries. This experience allowed me to enhance my Spanish speaking but I think the most valuable thing I gained from this experience was learning about someone else’s life that’s different from mine. I got to see cultural differences and really appreciate the Spanish culture. I learned about new foods, family traditions, but I also learned about a lot of similarities I had between people from across the world. This was a great experience but I did struggle at times which is expected as I am just learning Spanish, but this helped me learn more, I learned many new words and and also techniques to help me understand questions such as listening for key words.

Presentational Speaking
Throughout this class I had multiple opportunities for presentational speaking, one of these opportunities was through flipgrid. We had multiple assignments where we had to introduce ourselves or ask each other questions. These activities helped me practice my pronunciation as well as practicing sentences in Spanish. These videos helped me excel at my Spanish speaking and also learn more about other people through Spanish. Below is one of my flipgrid assignments of me introducing myself.
Presentational Writing
Throughout this class we had many presentational writing experiences two examples would be discussion boards and our tests. In our tests we would have prompts to write about and that would allow us to work on our writing. We also participated in discussion boards, we would read or watch a video on a topic and have to express our feelings on the topic in Spanish and English, we then got to collaborate with each other on the topic and learn about different opinions.

These activities helped me understand the Spanish culture more, I was able to learn about multiple topics that involved differences between Spain and the US. During this time I also got to practice writing in Spanish. I also got to talk to classmates about the topic which allows me to see multiple viewpoints and broaden my horizon.
Interpretive Listening
During this class I had to participate in talk abroad, this allowed me to work on interpretive listening. During these conversations I had to listen to my partner and hold a conversation well. I think this helped with understanding Spanish more as I had to be able to pick out words in order to respond to questions I didn’t fully understand. We also had conversations with our professors and interpretive listening was used in those conversations as well.

Interpretive Reading
I practiced my interpretive reading through linrgo learning and our module exams each week. Throughout our lingro learning assignments I had to learn how to read Spanish and show my understanding of the reading through fill in the blanks or true or false questions about the text. I also used interpretive reading in my exams, in our exams we had to fill in the blanks of a paragraph with verbs that made sense to the paragraph this helped me learn how to pick up on context clues.
