Mid-Semester Reflection
I am doing well in art and sociology because the content comes easy to me and I do the extra credit. I am also doing well in my Human Nature course because I enjoy the class discussions and like the teacher. I identified needing assistance in Chemistry and have been studying more for it. I began incorporating group studying rather than solo studying which I believe helped motivate me. I also feel that studying in public has helped me be more productive.
I expected the classes to be more difficult in college. However, because I did the International Baccalaureate Programme in high school, I feel the classes are easier. I am able to dedicate a lot more time to my hobbies and being social. I expected to meet a lot of new people in college and I’ve made a lot of friends. This is one of my favorite aspects of college and I’m honestly surprised how social I’ve become. My toughest challenge moving away to college has been not being able to see my family and money management. My easiest challenge to overcome has been living in the dorms because I feel I adapted really fast.
I learned about the graduate program for Speech Pathology from the Intro to Health Professions Class. I’ve met professors in this program and received an in depth tour of the Speech Pathology clinic. I learned about the acceptance rate for the program and the classes I will eventually have to take. I also learned that I will most likely minor in Special Education because that is what most Speech Pathology majors minor in. My feelings have not changed about my major as I am very set on it. I think the work that Speech Pathologists do is incredible and I love the idea of learning and teaching about language and the mouth.
I am interested in learning more about the Library Sciences major because I am interested in literature, specifically children’s literature. My mom got her masters to become an Elementary School library from ODU. I also love research and the library setting.
I’ve had a bit of trouble managing my time on specifically Tuesday’s. I have classes from 8-10:20 in the morning and then a lab in the afternoon, which leaves me feeling very drained and reluctant to begin my homework. I’ve begun using the library as a resource on this day as I don’t have too much time to spend in my dorm and I feel motivated by the library environment.
My roommate has been very helpful this semester and I can always count on her for support. We never argue, keep the room relatively clean, and have similar interests. Additionally, we hold each other accountable for finishing work. I have friends in the Learning Community who I study with which helps me in the LC courses.
I have not attended any interest meetings for clubs because the majority of the time the meetings fall on my busy day, which is Tuesday. I would like to get involved in clubs but I feel a bit intimidated by new clubs and I have difficulty assigning that time to attend meetings on Tuesdays.
