When looking at Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs in the context of technology, I discover that a lot of them align with my personal wants and needs. Apps that make everyday errands or tasks easier are an example of physiological needs. Things like online grocery buying have guaranteed that food is always available with just something as simple as placing an order. Apps for encrypted communication allow users to communicate their desires for security while guaranteeing both digital and physical protection which is the safety need. My desire for empathy and belonging is met by social media and video chatting apps, which link me to friends and groups. As a result of digital platforms that let me highlight my accomplishments and create a sense of recognition, my demands for self-esteem are met. Ultimately, technology acts as an outlet for self-actualization by providing online spaces and educational tools that support my ongoing personal development. Maslow’s Hierarchy appears in my journey not just as a theoretical foundation but also as a guide for how digital experiences satisfy my wants.
