After watching the Social media and cybersecurity video, as well as taking the Social Media Disorder scale I realized a lot about my social media use. On the quiz I finished with 2 yes answers and 7 no answers. I think that my results are fairly good but still need to be resolved. I answered yes to “tried to spend less time on social media but failed” and “often used social media to escape negative feelings”. With this information I think I can try and teach myself how to depend on other things when I’m feeling these emotions rather than social media. I think that the other questions in the scale like “neglected other activities because you wanted to use social media” and “regularly can’t think of anything else other than when you’ll be able to use social media again” are things that people actually struggle with and need help on. Obviously these obsessive traits over social media are not healthy but are truly some of the ways people help solve their internal problems. Focusing our energy on other more lively things in the spiritual aspect or environmental aspect can help us to redirect our obsessiveness away from the toxic media.
