The major I am pursuing is nursing, so I can obtain my BSN and became a trauma RN at Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Room. The reason why I chose this major is because I feel like my life’s purpose is to help people and that is the exact definition of nursing. I have wanted to become an RN since I was 13 years old. Before I wanted to become a nurse, I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. The reason was because I wanted to fix my mother’s knees [she has rheumatoid arthritis and needed to have double knee replacement surgery]; however, she got the surgery and I no longer needed to fix her, but I still wanted to be able to help people the way that surgery helped my mom, which is how I chose nursing. I chose nursing because nurses are the healthcare professionals that care for the patients before and after life changing situations and they are there by the patients’ side to help them through hard times. After doing my research, this was the only healthcare professional that I felt connected and helped patients the way I wanted to. Although I’m not a nurse yet, I do have some experience in my field. I have volunteered at Norfolk General emergency room [which is the hospital I want to work at], I have volunteered at multiple nursing homes, and I have worked in a group home for adult with disabilities. I have never been so passionate about anything else in my life the way I am about nursing, and I know that I will be an amazing nurse!
