In this activity I was able to explore the food culture of Colombia. In class we talked about different meals in different Spanish countries. When doing the assignment on my own, I discovered many different dishes and cool facts about Colombia. The legal drinking age is 18 and that arepas is a popular side dish.
Engaging in Communities
Engaging in the online community with my classmates we were able to watch each others projects and leave comments under their post. I think this helped give me an idea of what it’s like to communicate online in Spanish. In this project we were able to see what our classmates families looks like and their personalities. It was cool seeing what our families have in common.
Interpersonal Communication
For this activity I had to create an ad for a sports club. This relates to interpersonal communication because we had to communicate with our classmates to give feedback about what we liked or didn’t like about their ad. It was intriguing to see the type of sports that my classmates were interested in.
Presentational Speaking
For this assignment I was able to present to my classmates about describing my family. During this presentation I was able to provide pictures of my family and describe them in Spanish. I felt this was a good way to remember the personality traits. When listening to my classmates talk about their families it was interesting to see how they described their loved ones.
Presentational Writing
This semester I had the opportunity to create a hypothetic yoga club. During this assignment I had to entice students to join my club. What I learned from this assignment was how to talk about sports and how to go in depth to describe my club. What I struggled with the most during the assignment was remembering how to spell certain words. I rewrote this paragraph about 10 times before I felt comfortable to write it without looking at the original.
Interpretive Listening
This semester I completed a listening activity called “Un service de comics a domicilio”, during this activity we had to listen to Tierra talk about her food subscription service and also the customer reviews. In class we talked about the different types of food and recipes that were included in the service. The customers reviews we were able to identity the different steps the customers took to make the recipes.
One reading we focused on this semester was popular sports in Latin America. It was interesting to compare the popular sports in America and in Spanish speaking countries. It was a little difficult to understand a full Spanish article but the pictures included helped me get a grasp a better understanding of what sports they were talking about in the article. This article was helpful because it talked about variety sports.
