How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Cyber technology and technology as a whole have changed how we as humans communicate overall as people. It has changed how we interact with each other overall; it has changed how we feel towards people making us more and more comfortable judging others especially due to social media. The internet and the freedom it has created has given people as whole the freedom to feel as though they can express whatever is on their mind whether it is positive or negative no matter how it makes the other person feel. When it comes to the workplace technology has affected mainly how we communicate to coworkers at times helping with some communication barriers that already exist in the workplace but then again it also creates opportunities of misinterpretation of messages and information whether it is from your boss, a coworker, or just anyone sending out messages within your workplace technology has affected all aspects of it. Since technology security isn’t something that is often expressed in the workplace unless it is something that is newly being enforced by higher ups in the business world, the normal everyday workers aren’t being updated on how to talk, email etiquette, and overall communication on the internet. So, unless boundaries are established by whoever is in charge in the beginning then it is really free game to those who are talking through whatever form of communication online, they choose to have miscommunication, harmful words, and harassing messages to another coworker. Though right and wrong types of communication should honestly be common sense as well as normal human decency it still isn’t as common as we would think people receive harassing messages and emails all of the time from coworkers who truly just don’t understand that what they are doing is wrong. So, technology has enabled these things, but it still should always go back to human decency and common sense.
