1. How do engineers make cyber networks safer?
2. What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
Engineers are what I would consider the frontline workers when it comes to cyber networks and their safety. I say that because without them there would be known newer or advanced ways to actually update our cyber network systems. They are the ones that are consistently looking for ways to improve what we already have, looking for flaws in our systems, and making sure we are always up to date with our network security. Without newer systems in place, we would be at a higher risk of having vulnerabilities to exploit due to the lack of change that we would have in our systems. Engineers create the security systems that we use on our phones, computers, and all other devices we are storing our information on. When it comes to cybercrime, it is something that has been steadily increasing over the years of the internet’s introduction. Cybercrime makes up for nearly 40% of all the crime we have nowadays. Whether it is harassment, bullying, stalking or anything of that nature the internet has enabled a new wave of crime and criminal intent. Criminal justice has had to grow along with this new wave of crime having to update laws, introduce new reinforcements, as well as update their own computer systems to be fit for defending the new age of everything being digital. Criminal justice has had to adjust very fast to what has grown from the internet and in my opinion, they are still not as adjusted as need be to how fast the internet has grown creating more and more problems. Forensics has become one of the biggest things that have connected cybercrime and criminal justice with things like digital forensics and cyber law. Criminal justice has been using digital forensics to help them find whatever or whoever they happen to be looking for. This overlap relates to how unknown cybercrime and cyber security is continuing to go even with the growth of the cyber related crime.
