1. How does cyber technology impact interactions between offenders and victims?
2. How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and -infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?
Cyber technology has impacted interactions between offenders and victims in my opinion by making it easier for them to communicate with each other. I say that because the internet has enabled more and more communication methods between any two people with social media, messages, and apps like WhatsApp where you can talk in different countries with ease. It has sadly made it easier for the offenders to reach their initial victim and find potential victims just off of the internet. Due to Geo tracking apps making it easy to post your location or newer things like apple tags which have led to lawsuits due to stalking allegations are all tools that make it easier for offenders to do what they want to do with much more ease than before the making of these cyber technologies. Not only tracking issues but also direct messaging access these offenders would have based on the public or private settings of their victims it would make it a million times easier for them to get in contact with their victims then they would have without these features. I feel as though predictive knowledge isn’t needed just yet for developing cyber-policy and infrastructure due to past cases and past offenses. We have already seen enough harassment, stalking, and cybercrime being caused by the cyber technology we have now to put further security and policies into place. We know enough of what is going on now and common sense will tell us what we can expect without having to predict anything, so we don’t have much of a short arm at the time being since we already know what to expect. We know we need to put in protective security measures when it comes to app tracking which we have shown signs of as well as not making it so easy for people to get into contact with others over social media. I get it is based on the consumers response but then again, we are the consumers who need to be protected.
