Learning Style

STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS

  1. Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?

I study for each class by taking at least 2-3 for each course. While using my notes which I try to make colorful so I actually would want to study, quizlets, or any great materials needed to study. In that period of studying I try to just focus on that certain class, but also take 15 minute breaks in between as well.

  1. What specific techniques do you use in class?

I try to highlight the important things that are in the material, or maybe just not in the material, but something that might have been said by the professor. I try to jot down important details that the professor might mention about the material.

  1. What specific techniques do you use outside of class?

Using different research methods whether that be YouTube or quizlet or any other helpful techniques that help me get a better understanding of the material.

  1. Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why?

One class that I am doing well in at the moment the most would be English. I haven’t necessarily had to study much in this class, but in particular we have been doing writing assignments. I’ve had to expand and refresh my memory on the different kinds of writing styles.

STEP 2: IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES

  1. Identify one class where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions.

Chemistry is the class that I have experienced the most challenges.

  1. Review at least 5 academic tips/resources listed here: https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips What is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material?

One technique that could help me understand is note taking, but actually writing the examples down with the understanding of the examples and how it got to the specific answer. Writing down the details in between.

  1. What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material?

One technique I can try outside of class would definitely be tutoring, actually setting up an appointment with a tutor, and getting a better understanding of the material.
