Mid-Semester Reflection

  1. Study habits
    1. What classes are you doing well in, and why?

The classes that I am doing well in now are history, english comp, and I’m doing okay in sociology.

  1. What classes did you identify as needing assistance in, on your Learning Styles Self Assessment.

Chemistry

  1. What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)? I have improved on my study habits, the way that I study now and learn more information and a better understanding of what I am taught are the changes I’ve made.
  2. Transition to college
    1. What expectations did you have coming to college?

I expected it to be a lot of hard work, I knew that I had to dedicate more time into the courses that I am currently taking. I also expect it to not be this complicated when it comes to figuring out things.

  1. Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?

Yes

  1. How?

When I came to campus I then realized how important these classes really are,  and the expectations that I need to set for myself so that I may succeed in the classes.

  1. In what way is your college experience different from what you expected?

It differs because I knew that you would have to put effort into each class, but really dedicate your time for each class which means studying time. Maybe going to a tutoring session to help out as well.

  1. What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?

What has surprised me this semester would have to be socially with the experiences I have encountered since being at school. There are so many social groups and I’ve seen many clubs and organizations, but in general just students in all coming from different places together.

  1. If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?

My biggest challenge from being away from home is probably having my own space. Most of the time I enjoy being in the room by myself and also managing my time and money as an adult. My easiest challenge has been staying on top of my work, actually putting my assignments and things I need to do on my whiteboard to be organized.

  1. OR  If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?
  2. Major
    1. Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

I learned that it’s more competitive than I thought, I learned the classes that I need to do well in,l in order to be in nursing. I learned the classes that I have to take in order to be in nursing.

  1. Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.

Some thoughts I am having about this major is if I am even good enough for it? To go into detail, what if I am not smart enough to pass the classes that I need to take and not get into my major. Chemistry as of right now is kicking my butt and all I can worry about right now is not doing good in it, then having to retake the class over again.

  1. Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?

Not as of right, I haven’t thought about another minor, I am thinking about picking a minor though.

  1. Connecting to campus
    1. Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.
    2. One challenge that I have encountered was with chemistry assignments that I did not understand but, there is tutoring that I am able to attend to to help out.
    3. Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?
    4. Yes! My roommate is very helpful, she does help with assignments that we have. If I don’t understand something she is very helpful with breaking it down for me.
    5. Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?
    6. No, I have not.
