Computers have made the world a safer place in that they have helped the medical field tremendously, in that they are wonderful tools for storing patient information, and also for helping doctors determine what treatment the patient may need in that moment, and also be able to quickly relay what treatment the patient may need in the future. Medical offices and hospitals also have used computers to improve their security systems, health rooms, and surgical rooms. Computers also help us in regards to communication. This affects almost everyone in the world, whether it be world leaders attempting to communicate securely, or two friends trying to send a email about something, computers have helped us in so many ways when it comes to easier communication. Computers also helped eventually lead into cellphones. A cellphone in a sense is a mini computer, and without computers, cellphones wouldn’t exist. Computers have also helped make the world safer and all around better when it comes to the education system as well. Places where it may be hard to find a hardcopy of the book are now able to find most books online, and have the ability to keep them. Colleges also now have the ability to offer classes online, which allows people to enroll in courses from around the world, whether it be from the same state, different state, or even a different country. Now there are ways computers have made the world unsafe, such as various forms of cybercrime. As convenient as having patients records on the computer is, hackers may also target certain patients, such as a sports athlete or wealthy individual in order to exploit their records for a monetary gain, or to be the first to release breaking news. Bank records, while also conveniently on file, can also be targeted by cybercriminals. The criminal actor may attempt to acquire the targets bank information by pretending to be a bank agent or credit card company agent, and may request the customer to read them back their information, to which the actor now would have the ability to access the targets bank account, or credit card information. Hackers may also target the computers of pipelines for gas and oil companies. For example, the colonial pipeline ransomware attack caused significant economic loss, and also a massive gas shortage on the east coast.
