This course went just as I had originally thought it would. All of my expectations for this course were met and it has benefited me in the ways that i thought it would. It has taught me how to better understand the way different countries, and cultures perceive things differently from others, and also how they have an impact on not only the way people think and do things but also their personalities and emotional aspect of their life. I feel that I have greatly achieved the objectives of this course, and it will be something that I can apply later on into my career. My attitude of Cross-Cultural Psychology has not changed and I still perceive it the same as I did before. The only thing that I would do differently if I were to take this course again is to have better time management when doing my course work.

I chose this Image because I feel that it fits the objectives of this course and it can also be applied to me with spreading the knowledge of cross-cultural to others

Recently on social media I have been seeing a lot of Māori people show off their culture. Māori is a culture from New Zealand. Recently a lot of people, not just people of the Māori culture, have been doing the cultural dance called “Haka”. In this dance the Māori make faces called “Pūkana” which includes bulging your eyes out and frowning your face. They make these faces to symbolize their strength, where as here in America these faces would symbolize someone being upset. I think that it is very unique how the same facial expression can mean two different things in these two cultures.
I used this picture to display the facial expression “Pūkana”

I believe that many of the older fairytales adopt the same values. Most of them reflect the idea of women being dependent on men. Many of the fairytales such as Cinderella, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast all play into the aspect of women needing big strong princes to come and save them. Where as the newer fairytales all adopt the idea of strong independent women. Movies such as Frozen, Moana, Princess and the Frog, and Raya all show strong independent women as the main characters.
Both Frozen and Frozen 2 show two independent women, Anna and Elsa, work to save their town. Having them as main characters show that women do not need to depend on men and that women are not weak and fragile and are capable to do anything they set their mind to.
I use this pictures because it displays Anna ready to defend herself and shows that despite having a man right behind her she is capable enough.

After answering the question “Who am I?” in 10 different statements, I have concluded that I am more of an independent person rather than an interdependent person. For independent construal of self numbers 5 (introverted), 6(shy), 7(independent), 8( a homebody) 9( a person that enjoys quiet) reflect me being a person that enjoys staying to themselves and being separated from others. Whereas for interdependent construal of self, numbers 1 (intelligent), 2(hardworking), 3(caring), 4(selfless), 10(patient) reflect my relationship with others and how I interact with people.
I am more of an independent person because I enjoy being alone and away from others because it gives me the space I need and allows me to be more in control with my thoughts and the energy around me. I also would consider myself to be independent because I prefer to rely on myself when it comes to doing things as I feel more comfortable with knowing that I am responsible for decisions I make.

After reviewing the questions I got wrong during exam 1 I realized that I could have studied and prepared myself better before taking the exam. I scored a 84 and missed a total of 8 questions. After reading the questions and finding the correct answers I realize that if I had studied better I could have scored higher. Although my grade is pretty decent It could have been better.

After taking the NEO personality test. I scored highly on the openness and agreeableness, which was pretty predictable to me. This means that I am a creative and caring person and is always ready to help out. My score for conscientiousness and extraversion were average, which were somewhat accurate. This means that I am considerably goal-driven and can make friends easily. Lastly I scored high on neuroticism, which was very accurate to me because I am likely to get stressed all the time and have a hard time being put into difficult situations.

Life values that are important to me are patience, hard work, understanding, empathy and virtue. I chose to continue my education and attend college because the career path that I chose to follows requires me to have a higher level education. Another reason I decided to go to college is because it has always been a goal of mine that I’ve had, and that I knew it was important to my mother that I attend college because I would be her first child to attend college. My mother played a major factor in me deciding to attend college because I knew that it would make her proud.

After reading the objectives of this course I believe that this course would be very beneficial to me in the future . It will help me better understand the different cultures there are and how culture can impact people psychologically and throughout there life. I hope to take from the course the knowledge of cultural diversity and the impact that it has on people lives and apply it to my future career as a Behavioral Analyst or Criminal Psychologist. My biggest strategy for success during this course is to ensure that I stay on top of all my work and try my hardest.

Different Cultures: I used this picture to showcase the amount of different cultures that are all over the world.
