12/03/2019 – Operation Smile Service Project
This experience involved making sock puppets that could be donated to the Operation Smile Headquarters for use with patients relearning how to talk after a cleft lip and/or cleft palate surgery. It proved to me that I can make a meaningful impact relative to the profession of speech pathology even though I am not yet a speech pathologist myself.
11/15/2020 – National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association Service Project
This experience was a virtual walk to spread awareness about childhood apraxia of speech. It taught me that standing up for a cause will not only spread awareness about the cause, but it will also heighten individuals’ acceptance of the cause. When individuals are encouraged to become informed about a speech or language challenge, their perception of and desire to assist the people with that speech or language challenge are bound to change for the better.
04/07/2021 – Operation Smile Service Project
This experience involved the creation of smile bags that could be donated to the Operation Smile Headquarters as gifts for the patients healing from a cleft lip and/or cleft palate surgery. I donated wash cloths, bars of soap, toothbrushes and toothpastes, and activity books. I learned that there are ways of showing my appreciation for the individuals employed or affected by the profession of speech pathology during my time as a student.
