- What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
To protect the people from cyber crime laws have been put in place ever since the technology was available to the public and to this day they are still continuing creating new laws and regulations not just for individuals, but for companies too. Hacking although not physically hurting someone you are hurting the privacy of information of an individual or multiple individuals. Many believe that they will not get caught just because they are behind a computer screen, although that is not the case as police sectors have specialists that specialize in cyber crime along with investigators. These offences come with consequences just like other real crimes such as jail time and big fine penalties along with being on your record possibly preventing employers from hiring you. Depending on the severeness of the crime can result in heights as high as life in prison. An example of this is exploiting a website with millions of users such as facebook, compromising personal information of millions of people, which has happened before. Cyber crime will continue to overlap with criminal justice forever as long as technology advances. There will continue to be crimes of different sizes, big and small, but as long as more vulnerabilities are found the better the systems will become from these trial and errors. All we can do now is keep testing systems and continuing to learn more about cyber crime and all the tricks they have and methods used, and use them to our advantage creating new defenses as well as preventing many from the start from the smallest detail to the most obvious ways of breaching.
