Food Review

On November 8th, I went to try out a new restaurant known as Handsome Biscuit. It is located at 4200 Monarch Way, Norfolk, VA 23508. Handsome Biscuit is a restaurant that serves mostly breakfast foods and has fountain drinks as well as sweet tea to go with your food. I went there with my class and I ordered a bacon biscuit with a hash brown and an orange soda.

The restaurant on the outside was a little tedious and nothing special. Just the name of the place and some windows to see inside. From the outside I could see people ordering and some people already eating. When I walked to the door and touched the handle, I could tell that it had been used recently because the handle was warm, and the temperature was cold outside. I could tell that this place had its fair share of rush hours. When I walked in, I could smell the delectable food they were cooking in the kitchen, which was in clear view from the front of the restaurant. As soon as a customer would walk in, they would see the cash register and kitchen. They would hear the people in the kitchen preparing food while at the same time, being able to hear the customers talking at the tables with their food. The inside of the restaurant was pretty moderate design wise. There wasn’t anything really eye catching with the way it looked. The place also had pictures on the walls which could catch someone’s eye if they were staring at the walls. When I went to place my order, I had to wait for the cashier to return from the kitchen for some reason and as far as I know, I don’t think anyone else had that happen to them. It wasn’t a lengthy wait by any means, it was just unlucky that it happened to only me. Since I’m not really a breakfast person, I just got a bacon biscuit with a hash brown krisp and an orange soda. After I placed and paid for my relatively inexpensive order I went back to my table and waited. Not too long later my food came out. I realized soon after receiving my food that I didn’t get my drink that I bought. After letting the server know this, he left and returned with a midsized plastic cup that I was to use for my drink.

I first started with my bacon biscuit. The texture about what I expected for a biscuit, somewhat rugged and arid. The bacon looked not as greasy as if it had just come off the stove, but as if it was patted off softly with a napkin before it was put on the biscuit. The smell was unique to me because I can’t say that I ever smelled something like it ever before. It smelled like a fusion between the sweet smell of cinnamon and the meaty, mouthwatering smell of bacon and I had never smelled something quite like that before and if I focus, I can still smell it now. The hash brown I order was exactly how I prefer them to be, well put together. It came in a nice presentation and looked appetizing. I usually like hash browns of all shapes and sizes, but something was different about this one in particular. The presentation was fine, and the smell was tantalizing, it even felt typical for my standards of hash browns which is a somewhat rough top with a pretty smooth bottom, but when I got to the taste, it was hard to continue, for me at least. It tasted like onions and I do not like onions at all. The start off taste was fine until the after taste kicked in. The taste of onions was always there and the only way to get rid of it was to drink some of my soda, which was just ok, until I run out of soda. I decided not to try to force myself into eating it and just left it alone. My soda was an orange flavored soda and it had a unique taste as well. It wasn’t too sugary, but it still had some honeyed taste in it. I was drinking it constantly because the biscuit was arid and the hash brown had a bad after taste so by the time I finished my biscuit, my soda was finished as well.

My overall decision on the food was that it was very good. The bacon biscuit was very good along with the orange soda. The only reason I didn’t like the hash brown was because it had an onion after taste and I don’t like onions, but if someone else did like them then it shouldn’t bother them as much. I would eat here again whenever I just want to eat out somewhere that’s pretty affordable. Since I’m not much of a breakfast person, I would probably not come back that often, but if I was ever in the mood to go out for breakfast and this was in the area, it would be my choice every time.
