Journal 1 – Can You See Their Viewpoint
I have recently watched a video on Fox News about the Nike ad and the speakers they had invited also had different viewpoints from each other. Candace Owens was on the side that was against what Nike had done as well as what Kaepernick had done. The other speaker was Anthony Tall and he was on the side that was for what Nike had done. What Candace was trying to point out was that all the protesting was claiming to be about the black community and Kaepernick kneeled for the wrong reason. I don’t think she’s wrong about that, but I think what Kaepernick was trying to do was to prove a point about how his freedom as an American would allow him to kneel for the national anthem, which I think she overlooked or just bypassed. I think what Anthony believed was that the NFL was going to payback the community that Kaepernick was from for a moral stand point. I don’t think that anything is wrong with that other than the fact that the NFL is trying to sweep this incident under the rug.
Journal 2 – Part of the Resistance
I feel as though it is a good thing that there are people on the inside that are working to try and fix some of the problems that Trump has caused not only in our nation, but other nations that we have ties with. We also have to remember that it was us as citizens of the United States of America that put him into office in the first place because how we thought he would turn out as a president and a leader. You know it’s bad when the people that were on your side in the beginning decided that they didn’t want you anymore and started working against you. I completely agree with what the other politicians are doing to help us as a nation and that we should try to do the same to help each other out because the president sure isn’t doing a thing to help us out.
Journal 3 – Can You Spot The Fakest Real News
This article is about how Trump is supposedly considering putting a US base in Poland and why there are so many people in NATO against that. The article briefly states that Poland bypassed the Pentagon and the fact that Poland did that shows that they are trying to cause trouble in NATO if not just the US. Also, the fact that most people are thinking that Trump will immediately agree to the offer without even considering the other allies in NATO. The article mainly focuses on the negatives of the possible agreement as well as interviewing most of those against the offer, mainly in the US. The article also points out the fact that Poland isn’t the only country that could possibly be affected by this decision and those countries could be negatively affected as well. Most people are already against Trump and he claims to make this decision “very serious” and that doesn’t make people in the US any less concerned about that. It is also said that Poland is attempting to take advantage over Trump and his ego by setting this offer.
Journal 4 – Experiencing Racism/Sexism
One time during my high school life, I had a substitute teacher that didn’t try to hide her racism from my class. She would intentionally yell at the black students for talking, but quietly tell the white students to quiet down a little. One occasion, my class was notified that that specific teacher was going to be substituting for the class and everyone was upset and started telling the teacher about how the sub would treat us. The teacher then gave us a list to follow for the day she wouldn’t be here and if the sub went off track, she wanted us to bring the list up. The next day arrives and the class with the sub was next. We tried to do what our teacher wanted us to do, but the sub wouldn’t let us, she would only let the people she thought could be trustworthy enough, which just so happened to be the white students only. Even when we would bring up the list, she wouldn’t listen to the black students directly, she would ask one of the white students if it was true. Once our teacher had returned, we bombarded her with everything that happened in the class while she was gone. I don’t know what happened after that, but I never saw that substitute ever again.

They discuss the idea of goats and what they represented to other cultures. Then the subject sets to fainting goats and the video on YouTube and they go into detail on what and how they do it. They also talk about the history of the fainting goats. I had never heard of fainting goats until now and the concept of it is interesting. They do it as a fight-or-flight response, which is something that your body does when faced with danger. They also discuss the way your mind and body jerk you awake when you are dozing. The reasons those goats are bred is for novelty and for food. You would think that something like that wouldn’t be used for food, but some people don’t seem to care about it like that. If I were to get a goat that could do that, I would keep it as a pet instead of using it for food.

This podcast was about the Winchester Mystery House. They discuss the rumors and mysteries behind the house as they try to disprove some of them. They also discuss the history of the house and the history of the Winchester’s. Mrs. Winchester was a mysterious lady that seem strange or evil to her neighbors, but she didn’t pay them any mind. This podcast caught my eye because I watched the movie based off the house and I enjoyed the movie and wanted to learn more about the house. They talk about how the house was going to be built and why it was being built. There were things about it that I didn’t know such as Mrs. Winchester traversing her house to lose the ghosts and call other spirits to help her build the house the way the ghosts wanted it. Something I would like to do is to go see the house itself and see if it is possible to count all the rooms within the house.

Journal 7 – “The Daily”
Mark Levin talks about voting over the nation and how he portrays it. He goes from Florida to Georgia talking about how they are voting by putting special attention to who is currently winning and who is currently running in the state. Mark Levin tries to bring comparisons between the Democrats and the Republicans when it comes to cheating during voting. For example, “Vote totals in several major races are changing rapidly, all for the Democrats”.(Levin) Mark also talks about the rules with voting and how they should be strong and effective. I agree with him to an extent. Some people shouldn’t vote if they don’t pass some certain qualifications. While on the other hand, some people should vote so that their voice can be heard and counted toward the system. During the podcast Mark says that some people do not fill in the circles when they have to and instead draw arrows. That is a simple rule that anyone that is suppose to vote can follow and if you can’t follow that simple rule then you shouldn’t vote. I’m sure there are some people out there that can follow instructions correctly and they should vote so that they can give their two cents about the election and those that can’t follow instructions shouldn’t be allowed to vote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zIVSES071I
Journal 8 – SYSK Response or Daily
The Podcast started out talking about hygiene and germs and some theories like the hygiene hypothesis. The hygiene hypothesis is basically the hypothesis that if a child is raised in a sterile environment the child is more likely to get sick more than a child who was raised in a not so sterile environment. The podcast shifted to the 5 second rule which is that if food has touched the ground that you have 5 seconds, at most, to pick it up and eat it without picking up that much bacteria. They also talk about the germs found within bathrooms vs. the ones found in the kitchen. The bathroom toilet has less bacteria on it than the kitchen. I was most interested in the hygiene hypothesis because I had never heard of it before this podcast. I was raised in multiple different homes, so I would think that my early years were not in sterile environments. I was also told that as a kid I would get sick pretty easily, but after we moved, I would rarely get sick regardless where I was. I think the hygiene hypothesis makes sense to me at least since that was how I lived.
Journal 9 – Memoir Reflection
After rereading my memoir, I can tell the errors and mistakes I made on it in the beginning of the semester and I know what I would do to fix or change them now. One error I made that I could’ve fixed then was that I didn’t use very vivid detail in my story. I could’ve gone into a lot more detail during my explanation of the spelling bee or used more imagery during the explanation on how I felt during that time. Another error I could fix would be the common comma errors. I can point out and correct them now that I know how to catch most of them and how to correct them. I could also work on my attention grabber. I now know better ways to catch attention to my writings and these ways I didn’t know when I first started this and I think I could’ve reworked my new knowledge into my memoir. My plot for my memoir was pretty strong and it stayed on track as well. It made sure that the reader wasn’t lost on how things went throughout the story and it could also relate to some people that could’ve been in that predicament before.
Journal 10 – Best and Worst
Probably my most favorite part about this class was the people in it. I got to meet new people that I ended up becoming friends with. I also usually don’t like English classes, but this one was different in a good way. I actually like this English class because of the way we would go over the material and I really understood it, which was probably the reason I never liked English classes. I also enjoyed some of the assignments we had to do such as the rhetorical analysis on the documentary called “13th”. I think my least favorite part about the class was the amount of paper used during the entire class, but I guess that’s a part of college life that I’m still learning about. Other than all of that, the class itself was pretty fun and interesting for someone that typically doesn’t like English classes and if I had the option to take the next level with the same instructor than I would be all for it.
