- Political – Hacktivism is a new trend, whereby hackers hack government orbusiness entities for political motives. The article of young activists joining cyber groups indicates political motivation is high.
- Several reasons – Hackers use multidimensional motives that involve financial, political, or personal motives, such as in the article of varioushacker motives.
- Revenge – Cyberattacks also happen for personal motives such as revenge cases of revenge porn in which victims suffer digital abuse.
- Entertainment – Some hackers hack for kicks, such as in the LinkedIn data scraping.
- Boredom – Though boredom is a motivation of low-level attacks or cyberbullying, it is a weak motivation compared to financial or politicalmotives.
