Over the next few pages are my English class works during my first semester at ODU. They range in genre and writing style, and display my ability to shift in topic and practice my range as an author.

The first assignment is a literacy narrative that I wrote during the first part of the semester. The purpose was to display how I found my way, and demonstrated my proficiency in a discourse group, or a group of people who share the same values and tasks. Being the first project I worked on, it is not perfect, but after revision it did turn into a good story. The background information about it has to do with JROTC during my senior year of high school.

The second page contains my image analysis essay, or my second project in the class. This was during our advertisements lessons, and the purpose was to compare two advertisements and see how each targeted certain people, and whether it was effective or not. I chose my advertisements based on newspapers, and more specifically, the front page of certain ones.

My final page contains my research essay, or the final project. The essay is to display that I was able to choose a topic, and properly find credible sources to back up my argument. Along with this, I had to properly cite the sources, and prove I was capable of avoiding plagiarism. I wrote my research essay on organ donation, and the issue on how to increase numbers.
