According to my reviewer, my website has a lot of visual aids to help connect my assignments and takeaways to real life.  She really appreciated that my pages were not endless paragraphs about what I learned. Another thing that my reviewer pointed out was that I do not write as if I am attempting to fulfill a grade but genuinely enjoying sharing what I am learning throughout the course. Her one piece of advice was to add a picture to my home page, whether it is something that relates to me or to the class overall.

At the beginning of the course I was reluctant because I was not sure if it would be interesting but by the end of the semester, Social Psychology is my favorite course by far. I intended to diligently study throughout the course, and I did, as a result, I earned good grades on my exams and other assignments. If I took this course again I would complete all of the assignments as early as I could, that way I would not have to stress about it. Academically I have grown because this was the first course that I took where all the assignments were already posted on Blackboard it showed me to not procrastinate. This also can be applied to my professional life because procrastination does not do well in the professional world either. The photo below represents my academic growth because it displays the effect of procrastination and how it stands in the way of success.

The top three things that I learned throughout this course are I believe in my ability but I believe in my ability to grow, even more, people do not have to be racist to make racist comments, and social-awareness assessment scores were low. Personally, I believe that Blog I and Assignment Takeaway III are connected. This is because I expressed my concerns for having to address racism and why people are racist in Blog I and I examined racist outbursts from two actors for Assignment III and spoke about it in Assignment Takeaway III. One thing that I have learned in this course that connects to a different course is heuristics. Early in this course, we learned about the different types of heuristics and when we use them while one of the last things that I learned in my Human Cognition class is heuristics help us predict people and their behaviors. Below is a picture that relates my organizational process for boiling down what I have learned this semester.

People often get angry with each other in any relationship, especially in romantic relationships. In the past, I have angered men by not having sex with him when he wanted to, by talking about my feelings and constantly asking how they feel. Men often what you to have sex with them early in the relationship when a woman is not ready for it. Some men do not like talking about their feelings nor fo they like talking about their partner’s feelings. In the past, I have been angered by men for not telling me how they feel, they are too blunt and they not forthcoming about where they are and who they are with. Some women will ask a man something and he will be too blunt and not consider her feelings. Men will often lie about where they are and who they are with because they are lying to their partner. While reading the assigned article I learned that some women will give up sex in an attempt to obtain a nonsexual long term relationship. I have personally never done this before but I could understand how men can get angered by this. The below pictures indicate a woman angered by a man and a man angered by a woman.

Self-Regulation is a part of Emotional Intelligence, they go into each other. Self-Regulation is managing yourself and your emotions. While Emotional Intelligence is understanding the emotions of others and responding accordingly. I had learned about Emotional Intelligence, Self-Regulation, Self-Awareness and Social-Awareness in training for my job. An example of me dealing with Emotional Intelligence is when myself and a friend of mine went up for the same promotion. I was the one that was chosen for the job, and my friend did not speak to me for a week. When she finally spoke to me I knew that she was upset about me getting the job. I decided to think before I spoke and to speak calmly this was all very hard for me. I am not skilled in being aware of my emotions because I am not an emotional person. In the future will continue to work hard at self-regulating and being aware of others feelings.

Companies have been sexualizing and dehumanizing women through advertisement since the beginning. I have realized this before watching the video of Jean Kilbourne’s Killing Us Softly. I had read articles about how women were depicted in advertisements in the past. I did not know that the advertisements were still a thing in today’s society where women are known as powerful and capable of great things. Below are advertisements that depict women in a negative light.

www.scoopwhoop.com/inothernews/sexist-advertisements/#.qzy23a5yk

Above are three advertisements that sexualize women to sell products.  The first shows how a shirt advertised on a man and on a woman, it is the same shirt but displayed differently. On the woman the shirt is open and she is clearly wearing nothing else under the shirt while on the man it is buttoned up almost to the top. On the second advertisement, Burger King is displaying their new BK Super Seven Incher but it is the way they did it that is offensive to women. They have the sandwich approaching a woman with her mouth ready to take in the sandwich and they use the word blow indicating oral sex. This links the BK Seven Incher to sex and makes men want it when they see it. The third advertisement is for Dolce & Gabbana and it depicts four men surrounding a woman while one of the men pinning her down. This links Dolce & Gabbana to having sex with multiple partners with the woman being forcibly handled.

The two advertisements above are both from the 1960s. During this time women were seen as weak and incapable of doing anything without the help of a strong man. The first advertisement displays an ad for Del Monte ketchup with the statement “You mean a WOMAN can open it?”. Before the twist cap a big, strong man had to open the bottle for the woman but now a delicate woman hand can open the bottle by herself. The second advertisement shows a woman being spanked by her husband for not getting Chase & Sanborn coffee. Domestic violence is a very serious situation, and the advertisement is making light of the situation. This puts the idea in men’s minds that hitting and abusing their wives is okay because it is shown in the media.

The above picture is an example of credible advertising. This is due to the line at the bottom that states “Paid For By Obama For America”, this informs the observer that the advertisement was made by the campaign of Barack Obama. The advertisement is trustworthy because the campaign would not say something untrue about the candidate if they want him to be elected by the citizens. It is in the best interest of the campaign to be truthful because there are people who fact check such advertisements.

The above picture is an example of un-credible advertising for multiple reasons. One reason the advertisement is unreliable is that the bottom reads “Vote Mitt Romney For 2012!”, this was Obama’s opponent for the 2012 presidential race. It is in Romney’s best interest to discredit Obama so people vote for him instead. The website the picture was pulled from revealed that observers stated that if Romney was so great he should focus more on telling voters why he’s the right choice instead of bath mouthing his opponent. Another reason the advertisement is untrustworthy is that it used profanity (the redacted word) and derogatory terms by calling Obama an idiot.

The above picture is an example of an attractive source. The intended audience is people who are attracted to females and I personally am not part of that group, therefore, I am not attracted to the source. This is because if you are attracted to Jennifer Aniston, you will want to be like her and drink Smart Water. The source is considered attractive because Aniston is partially naked in the advertisement, this will draw the observers attention toward the source. In the picture, Aniston is black and white allowing the observer to pay more attention to the product.

I got 45 questions out of 50 correct earning me 90% on the first exam. One question I missed was because I saw that the second part of the answer was right but the first part was incorrect. The next question I missed was because I read the question and did not understand that I was supposed to pick up the answer the subject should avoid. The final question I missed was because I confused intergroup and intragroup. I completed the study guide that was provided the week prior to the exam. I believe that this helped me realize that I need to take my time when reading test questions and focus more on things that are similar but not the same. I believe this will help me avoid the same issues in the future.

I agree with the article “Soul Meets Body”, having the same taste in music provides you with more to talk about. It is also important that you like the same music as those around you because at some point or another you will have to listen to music, and it is better if you both enjoy it. My mother and I both like Ed Sheeran and modern country music so when we go on road trips, we listen to a playlist of those songs. My boyfriend and I both like modern country and rock, he has to listen to music whenever he does anything. This gives us plenty of opportunities to state our opinions on which songs we prefer and don’t. My brother and I both like rap and R&B so we have been learning rap songs to sing together since we were children.

I am fairly confident in my current ability, but I am more confident in my ability to grow. I am certain that I will accomplish the goals that I set for myself and that I will flourish in the career path I decide. So far in life, I have earned an Associate’s Degree and obtained a good job that I enjoy. I believe reaching your goals is a big factor that increases one’s confidence level. I am more confident that I will earn my Bachelor’s Degree and obtain a job that I love. I believe that hard work pays off in the end. The results of the Self-Efficacy Survey are proof of that.

Report finds high levels of discrimination against those with epilepsy

As an African American female, I am what some consider a double minority. I believe the course objective on discussing the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination will be beneficial in understanding why they still exist. I expect that comprehending this will help me when I encounter it in the future. I intend to diligently study in order to be successful throughout this course.
