Mid-Semester Reflection

Study Habits

I spend about 4 hours of studying class per week. I should spend more time studying for my English Composition class since the professor gives out the most work. I study either in my dorm room, the Webb, or the library. Yes, I am easily distracted which I do not like. A distraction method I use is I put in my headphones and blast music so I can stay focused. I usually get more work done at night. During the day I just cannot seem to focus. I feel most focused and alert right now because it is eight o’clock right now.

Learning Style

Each class I use a different study technique. The main techniques I use is color-coded notes, reviewing the material, and I rewatch the lectures my professors put up on blackboard. My harder classes I rewatch the lectures and take new color-coded notes but for my easier classes I just review my notes. A new study technique I use is the buddy study system. Some of my classmates and I have made group chats to talk about the material and if we have questions about the homework. This help a lot because some of my classmates are confused about the same things that I am confused about to, so I do not feel dumb.

Transition to College

College has but has not been what I expected. Covid-19 has obviously changed how my freshman year is going. I was excited to go to parties and sports games but because of Covid-19 there are none. Nothing has really surprised me this year other than the load of homework I always have in English. The hardest thing about moving away is the lack of food there is. There are a lot of food options on campus, but they all close at 8 pm when I get hungry again around 11 pm. So, I either must starve or eat the snacks that I brought. I really did not have challenges when I moved away.

Connecting to Campus

One problem I have encountered is that my dorm only has two washers and dryers for a whole floor of like 30 people. And sometimes people from downstairs use our washer and dryer so that is extra people taking up the machines. What ODU can do is make the laundry room in Rogers East bigger. I have made friends that help me through any issues I have. But I have not had any issues since I been here. I have not decided to join a club this semester because I wanted to get in the swing of juggling homework and my social life.
