Assignment Takeaway #5

The goal of this assignment was to complete a daily random act of kindness. Over the course of several days the acts were completed and then I had time to reflect on the responses I received and analyze how they made me feel. I completed Social Problems in a previous semester and this assignment made me reflect on the material learned in that course. Society does not always interact in the best manner with each other and many social issues discussed in the class are still relevant today. We discussed poverty, racism and various other forms of prejudice. I believe that if as a society more people participated in random acts of kindness that many of these social problems could be eliminated. In my opinion if we all showed a little more kindness and understanding to each other our society would be stronger and healthier as a whole. I enjoyed completing this assignment and I enjoyed the responses I received from completing the random acts of kindness. I intend to continue doing random acts of kindness in the hopes that it will inspire others to the same.

Assignment Takeaway #3

The goal of this assignment was to view a video clip of a comedians racial rant and analyze. This video highlighted the racism that many minorities still encounter in our society. A few years ago I took a a class called Social Problems, this clip reminded me of the similar content that we viewed in relation to that course. The course material from my Social Problems class and this video were similar because they are a prime example of racism and how destructive it has been to our society and how damaging it still is in the present. This content is relevant to me personally because I was raised in a very diverse family and I have witnessed the harmful effects that racism can have on individuals and families firsthand.

Assignment Takeaway #2

The goal of this assignment was to select photos and explain how these photos represent your identity , self control and self presentation. While completing this assignment I learned that I have a tendency to only present my best self. I realized that many of the photos that I chose were not ones that I typically shared because I may not look my personal best. Those photos however really provided insight into my identity as a mother, sister, friend and as a student. I was able to come to this realization by comparing my assignment with the material we are currently learning in the chapter assignments. This gave me a greater understanding of the concepts of self presentation and self identification. This information was relevant to the assignment because I had to explore the various roles of my “self” as a mother , sister, student and friend.
