How do the Principles of Science relate to Cybersecurity?

The principles of science are social sciences spanning 7 unique principles. Those are Relativism, Objectivism, Determinism, Parsimony, Ethical Neutrality, Objectivity, and skepticism. Applying these principles to how we understand cybersecurity allows us to recognize how technological changes influence aspects such as policy and societal processes. We may see this application manifest in the form of Social and Behavioral Science fields interacting with Cybersecurity. This work of SBS looks to address questions to data hygiene and user authentication.

With SBS comes Social Cybersecurity, considered a computational social science. Social Cybersecurity tackles issues such as false information in political campaigns. Twitter is a major source for online information where user’s share opinions and articles. This can become an issue when contextualized by super users and their echo chambers. Social Cybersecurity in this context, aims to explain how ideologies grow within their echo chambers and how they then spread outside to user’s who would normally not be exposed.

Social Cybersecurity is a product of Cybersecurity fundamentals and the principles of the social sciences. It is a method by which we may better understand the impact of the cyberspace with the physical world and provides us a way to develop metrics we may use to measure and illustrate the flow of information online. This will prove to grow in importance in the coming years. The internet is still very young and humans are not so much older. We will grow together and the use of Social Cybersecurity will grow as a result.
