Author Review – 5 Most Serious Violations

There are many crossovers from the real world to the cyberspace that remain illegal. This article covers such instances, some of which may be considered less impactful than others. For this entry, impact is defined as the effect something has on your well-being. Five of the examples stuck out to me, so I will list them here. Collecting information about people younger than 13 violates the Children’s Online Protection Act and highlights how important the parent’s role is in protecting their children in cyberspace. Faking your identity online, or Identity Fraud can negatively impact the victim for years. Financial schemes may be carried out in their name leaving them open to substantial risk. Recording a VoIP call without consent is illegal and immoral. Illegal searches on the internet such as child pornography, hiring a hit man or other questionable terms. These searches are blocked but the thought process behind searching these terms shows nefarious intent.

After completing the article, I found I hold an uncharitable view of its execution. I understand the article is an ad for Clario VPN. However, I do not think it is sensible to discuss why it’s bad to search for child pornography or collect information about minors in the body of the text, then end the article by advocating a VPN for private browsing or the TOR browser if the VPN is not private enough.
