Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology

My love for cybersecurity technology started at a very young age. I was addicted to games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 on the popular gaming platform Steam. One aspect of the game I was always fond of was the in game cosmetics. For example, you could get a rare knife or get an “unusual” hat with special effects around it. With these items you could trade with other plays or sell them on the steam marketplace. I slowly started amassing a solid collection of items that I was very proud. One day, I got a message that I had won a giveaway! I clicked the link and entered my information so I could claim my prize, but it was all fake. I had fallen victim to a Phishing scam and everything I had was gone. I was devastated, everything I had was gone.

There are thousands of people out there, both young and old, who fall victim to cybercrimes. Maybe they’ll lose their in-game cosmetics one time, but the next person could lose their banking information, their privacy, or even their identity as a whole. As of 2022, individuals who fall victim to cybercrime on average lose $4,746 dollars and as a whole, individuals have lost a total of $318 billion dollars. I want to help people and protect the cyberspace that has become such a huge part of our lives.
