Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and My Experience to Technology
At the very bottom of Maslow’s Hierarchy we find physiological needs. This includes things like food, water, and warmth. I find technology involved in this due to need for technology when I am trying to cook, stay cool during the summer, getting water out of my fridge, and even staying warm during the winters.
Next we have safety needs. Without technology I would not be able to call for help in emergency situations or monitor home. We have things like iphones, live cameras, 24/7 security services linked to phones to report movement, and many more security measure that technology has brought to society.
Following safety needs we have belongingness and love needs. I do not think I would be in touch with most people after college begin if we did not have social media today. The digital age has allowed us all to be connected and even find friends, create groups, and the ability to listen and share stories to everyone.
The next spot on the pyramid is esteem needs. Social media can also apply here for me because who doesn’t like getting internet points (likes). It gives me a good shot of dopamine and puts a smile on my face.
On the top we can find self-actualization, reaching ones full potential. I think like many I have learned and even attended college online. It has allowed many to continue progressing in their life while not risking one of the lower steps on the pyramid, safety needs.
