Compare cybersecurity risks in the U.S. and another country.
The U.S. shares a greater risk with cybersecurity in comparison to other countries, like China, due to its availability and unrestricted access for citizens. Any person or organization could use unethical practices or even fall victim to them. Of course, hacking/unethical technology use occurs in every country, but it’s different in America because of its abundance in every aspect of life. China’s online space is controlled and heavily monitored by the government, so unethical practices on the internet could carry a risk that leads to a punishment that is not worth the attack. Cybersecurity threats in China are less likely to occur, but when they do, it’s an attack that surpasses the risk of getting caught. In China, these attacks are in the name of money, a message, or political reasons, but in America, it doesn’t matter what type of person or business you are, you can be a victim. The capabilities and access that the average US citizen has on the internet are very wide, and that is what makes it easy for any person to use it to their advantage. For example, the MGM Grand was targeted in a cybersecurity hack. The casino lost thousands of dollars daily due to the attack shutting down multiple slot machines for days. Another example of cybersecurity risks in America is a kid playing their video games online. A person in the chat could convince him that he works for the Microsoft company and use his fake identity to steal private information from the child. Whatever information you could possibly gain from an interaction with an attack like that, the risk is far too low of a worth for a person in another country like China to want to do.
