Interpretive Listening/Reading

In an effort to further immerse myself in the Spanish language, I have begun to watch movies and television shows that are either in Spanish or with Spanish subtitles. Watching familiar shows and being able to read along in Spanish has helped teach me new words and get a better grasp of the proper inflections and pronunciations of words I already knew and introduce me to new words used in a realistic context. I have even gone as far as translating the theme songs of some Spanish shows which have given me great insight as to how to use the Spanish language in many creative ways. I typically use audiobooks to help fall asleep and have recently begun one of my favorite books again, Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. The book begins with the search for how to optimize human running efficiency and ventures deep into the almost supernatural running culture that is the tradition of the Tarahumara runners of Northern Mexico. Going through the book again and revisiting some of the stories about Mexican culture and tradition has helped me make use of the skills we have learned this semester.
