The media influences our understanding about cybersecurity in many ways such as depicted in the videos the cyber hackers were very fast and efficient at hacking into a system. In real life hacking takes time and it takes some form of knowledge of the user, for instance there was a scene in the video that depicted a hacker trying to hack by phishing. The narrator stated that to really get someone to fall for a phishing scam you really need to know that person, what they like, or what’s relevant in their life to try and get them to click on the links. Also, another way it is influenced is, there was a scene where a person in the movie was extracting data and was doing it right in the middle of his office. In real life when extracting personal or private data you should be in a secure space to weather ethically hacking or not you should be in a space to minimize further exposure of one’s personal info. The media influences our daily lives in big ways, with Hollywood’s depiction of cybersecurity it looks fun and pretty simple to do but in real life it really takes problem solving and patience to be able to do a job like this.
