The article I chose to review was from the Journal of Cybersecurity called Cybersecurity when working from home during COVID-19: Considering the human factors. This article researched the lives of 27 Australian citizens men and women ages ranging from 25 to 72, in hopes of gaining an insight into their lives as they transitioned from working in an office to working from home during a global pandemic known as COVID-19. During the study they discovered reoccurring themes with most of the participants such as stress, little time to adapt to new surroundings, and or not having the proper training which all had some type of effect on their cybersecurity practices while away from the office. This article used Phenomenological analysis which is used to study an individual’s lived experiences this type of analysis aims to provide producing generalized findings to gain an insight into that person’s life which was conducted in this article through several interviews. These interviews lasted 30 to 40 minutes and was used as an insight to how well cybersecurity practices have been conducted and how cyber security will be an affected from a psychological aspect. Determinism was one of the concepts that I identified throughout this article, due to the high stress and quick change of events that COVID-19 brought most people when working from home. One of the participants stated that they accidentally downloaded viruses on their computers and other participants stated they showed signs of PTSD which could ultimately affect their decision making, this will in turn cause difficulty learning new cyber practices while away from the office. Secondly, Parsimony, because I feel as if they should make easy to use systems while working from home, that could help to minimize cyber vulnerabilities. Several Participants also stated that they worked with old equipment and had Internet problems which could also potentially lead to cyber-attacks, using simple yet affective ways could help safeguard vital information while at home. Lastly, Empiricism This relates to this article because it uses real world research to scope out vulnerabilities from transitioning from working in an office to working at home. The overall contribution of this study will help society in a way that they will implement More efficient trainings and have a plan in place just in case something like this happens again. I feel as if the employees should be more versed in using real time up to date technology. Furthermore, I feel as if making a better work life balance would be great because most people would not experience such extreme symptoms as they did when the pandemic hit. In conclusion this article highlights the changes of cybersecurity practices while transitioning from office to working from home during a global pandemic. Several factors were included in this article that were harmful to cybersecurity and the individual’s well-being. Being prepared for drastic changes is something every company/organization will need to learn.
