Cyber technology in the workplace has allowed many opportunities for people to violate social norms. It is important to understand the difference between deviance and crime. Crime is something illegal by law while deviance is a questionable act out of the ordinary caused by an individual. An example of deviance in the workplace using cyber technology would be cyberbullying for example one employee is spreading misinformation about another employee or saying mean / rude things online. An example of crime would be embezzlement though this is a white-collar crime it is still a punishable offense. While focusing on the topic of deviance in the workplace, a prime and perfect example of deviance would be a few employees messing around on the organization’s system and causing a data breach. Though this isn’t a crime it is still important for organizations to have policies in place to address these issues.
