Journal Entry #6
Phishing Hulu email. You can tell this email is a scam by how unorganized it is. The email contains random characters in places there shouldn’t be any characters. The email subject is very unprofessional. I didn’t click on the website so I’m not entirely sure the purpose of this email. Lastly, the dead giveaway was the random email address used to send the email.
Real Hulu email/ website. I actually do have a Hulu account and the emails are very professional. When you click on a real Hulu email and or website there is supposed to be a playback video/ cameo of some sort. Hulu uses a dark background rather than light mode. Hulu also never sends “limited promotional offers”, rather they usually just send recommendations of TV Shows or Movies a subscriber might be interested in.
A Triple A phishing email. This email is also very unprofessional with random characters. This was an attempt to click a link to claim “free car emergency kit”, I did not click the link so I’m not too sure about the motive behind this trap. The random sender email was definitely a red flag and I also do not have Triple A insurance so I’m not a member nor should I be receiving Triple A notifications.
Real Triple A website. The AAA logo is outlined in white and also in the top tab bar the logo visible on the domain. Triple A does offer enrollment discounts but not “free” items.
Phishing Netflix attempt. The common giveaway with phishing emails are the random characters being placed in random places where there should be no characters. Attackers also always offer “free” benefits or items to gain more traffic. There is also no between Netflix and Membership this is very poorly put together. This email prompts you to enter your credit card details for validation and claims you will not be charged.
Real Netflix website. I don’t have a Netflix account but I’m sure it operates like other streaming networks such as Hulu, Prime etc. Streaming networks usually send you recommendations of products you might be interested in and are usually on autopay so they seldomly email you about your membership or subscription.
