Criminal Justice and Cybersecurity

The overlap between cybercrime and criminal justice is simple. Cybercrime is defined as criminal activity done online. When a crime is committed, some form of criminal justice has to interfere. Whether it be a lawsuit, an investigation or just a plain arrest, a criminal justice official has to step in. Other disciplines like sociology relate because sociology studies why the cybercrime is wrong. Both of these disciplines want justice for the victim of a cybercrime.

Cyber technology can impact the interactions between the offenders and victims because of the fact that they are both behind the computer. Cyberbullying, for example is done behind a computer instead of in person. People who cyberbully are more brave online because of the fact that they are not in person and can have the courage to say anything that they would not in person. They can say very nasty things to a person that they would never say offline that could really hurt the victim. Believe it or not, cyberbullying is still a crime, just like normal bullying is.
