Ethical Issues

When storing electronic information about individuals, a few ethical issues could come to arise. One of these issue include storing someone’s social security number. A social security number is someone’s identification number, so if that gets leaked somehow, it is possible that their life could get ruined. Keeping someone’s passwords on their iPhone is another way that unethical issues could arise. People’s iClouds get leaked all the time, so passwords could be given out to anyone. Another issue is the storing of addresses on certain websites. It does not take long for someone to look up a name and find out everything about a person, including phone number and address. This is very unethical because of the frightening things someone could do with this information. Finally, storing someone’s photos online could be an ethical issue because for instance, if someone wants to erase themself from online, it will be almost impossible because the internet keeps everything. Again, as said before, people could do frightening things with such information.

Surprisingly, the United States has the highest amount of cyber attacks per year compared to other countries. This may be due to the fact that US citizens seem to be the ones posting the most about themselves online. The internet is storing personal information online only because people allow them to do so. One way to combat cyber attacks is to not share so much personal information online.
