Cell Biology (BIOL 293)

End-of-term Reflection

One thing I learned in this class that helped me in my other course work has to be anything about genes. I was taking Vertebrate Zoology this semester and by learning the basics such as DNA and RNA, transcription/translation, and how they function themselves and in other mechanisms helped me understand how genes work in a more in-depth manner. How genetics relate to Vertebrate Zoology is that we learned about many animals from the Cambrian to Quaternary period and how these species have evolved through the years changing their genetics due to their environment. I also learned a lot about gene editing through packback assignments. Whenever a question regarding genes or CRISPR appeared, I wanted to make a response just to learn more. In regards to my field of interest, teaching, genetics relates to it because everyone is different. Being in a school seeing many different people shows how genetics diversifies everyone to look how they look and act how they act. Next semester I will be taking genetics so everything that I have learned this semester will help me as I now know the basics of genetics.
