I took an interest in cybersecurity just recently. Majoring in criminal justice, I’ve always enjoyed problem solving and the ability to protect society through our justice system. Given the times we’re in where technology advancement is prevalent, I’m excited to learn ways to secure our computer systems and networks. Module one provided me with a good foundation of why cybersecurity is important and how relevant it is to our everyday lives. Whether or not one chooses cybersecurity as a career path, we are all affected by the consequences of unsecured computers and/or networks.
Given my interest in investigating, I am sure this semester will be a way to incorporate those interests in the world of technology. Learning ways to protect the privacy of myself and others is what I look forward to the most this semester. I love to keep my mind engaged by taking on academic challenges. Because I have no prior experience with cybersecurity technology outside of downloading a virus software for my computer and other surface-level things, I saw this as an opportunity to expand my knowledge on this subject. I believe now is a great time for me to learn more about cybersecurity technology because it may be of greater interest than I thought, which could lead to opportunities for me post-graduation.
What I like most about cybersecurity is the fact that it is needed in almost every industry. In doing research, I found that there are many jobs in the cybersecurity workforce. With the on-going evolution of technology, cybersecurity is inevitably going to advance which makes it exciting for someone like me who enjoys the challenges.
