Modern technology grants indefinite power requiring more principles and responsibility. It is very complex, and the standard ethics are not enough to prevent risks. Ethical guidelines, procedures, and standards would be needed to make anew to keep up to date with the technology being invented. Four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals are confidentiality and privacy, fraud and misuse, accuracy, and access and availability. Confidentiality is the ability to protect data so that unauthorized parties will not have access. Storing personal information in a computer has its potential risks such as who has access to a person’s data information and how it is used. This involves the next ethical issue which is fraud and misuse. Releasing personal confidential information to third parties gives attackers the chance to steal and corrupt data. An individual’s data can be compromised and used for identity theft, financial fraud, and scams. The third ethical problem when addressing storing electronic information is accuracy. The input of inaccurate information can cause issues in an individual’s life. Computers can malfunction and cause errors during the storage or transaction of information, data, or finances. There can also be human inaccuracies made while inquiring and entire the information in computer systems. The final ethical issue is access and availability. Availability is the right to have information readily accessible at any time. Technical systems and hardware that hold the information would need to be in good condition and up to date to ensure that the electronic information is organized and set. After storing electronic information, some data might not be disclosed, or privilege rights would have to be authorized first.
