Mid-Semester Reflection

  1. Study habits

Sociology and Chemistry Lecture are the two classes I am doing the best in this semester. I think These classes are going well for me because they are the two that I study the most in and get the most extra help with.

I identified English and Chemistry Lab as the two classes that I need more assistance in.

When I identified these two classes as being the ones I need more help I was decided to reach out for more help. I email my English professor two to three times a week for extra clarification. Although I also reached out to my Chemistry professor several times I found It best that I switch was to a different class altogether.

  1. Transition to college

Coming into college I was expecting my classes to be very large in number, teachers to be mean, and the work to be hard. Along with not having much time to spend with my friends.

Mostly all of my expectations coming into college were incorrect.

Almost all my teachers are extremely nice and want the best for me academically. My class sizes are small in numbers which makes it a lot easier for me to concentrate and feel more comfortable. The work that I have been receiving so far has not been extremely difficult for me but when it is I’ve been able to seek help fast. Lastly, I have been able to balance school and friends very well even if all we get to do is eat or study together we always get to spend time with one another.

My college experience has been different in the way I was expecting from a personal standpoint. I thought that I wasn’t going to make good friends or go out and meet new people or just put myself out there in general. Being here I’ve learned that everyone is feeling the same way and everyone wants the same thing, to be successful academically but also have fun doing it.

So far this semester I have learned that I am more than capable of being successful in class. I wasn’t feeling too confident in myself starting out the semester but now that I know I can do good when I work hard it’s surprised me how confident I have become.

The hardest challenge for me to overcome while living on campus is not being able to see my parents every day when I wake up. It’s been hard being away from my family but having the friends that I have made it 100 times easier. The easiest challenge to overcome is getting into a routine with classes and school work.

  1. Major

Something that I didn’t know about my major but do know now is that only 80 people that apply to the nursing program can get each year.

My feeling has not changed towards becoming a nursing major because this is something that I have wanted to accomplish for as long as I can remember. I was willing to do whatever it took to get this Nursing program at the beginning of the semester and I’m still willing to do it now. I think that it will be very competitive and difficult but I believe in myself and I am willing to try my best.

Sports med has also been something that I have also been interested in for a long time. So I would not mind learning more about the sports med field.

  1. Connecting to campus

One challenge that I have encountered this semester was my chemistry lab professor. I was able to utilize my chemistry lecture professor to help me with tutoring and give me advice on ways to communicate with him. I utilized her again to help me transform into a new class in order to better my chances of succeeding.

My roommate Iyanna has helped me in so many ways this semester whether it’s listening to me rant, walking to class with me, studying together, or even helping me manage my time and work she has always been there.

I’m currently in the ILC club and have attended several meetings. I joined this clue because I thought it would better my chances of being successful academically.
