Pre-Semester Reflection

  1. Transition to college

I am most excited about meeting new people and making new friends this semester.

I think the biggest challenge for me this semester would be staying away from my parents for so long. Both my parents are my best friends and my biggest motivators so not being able to see and talk to them every day is a big change and hard adjustment for me.

Other than being a member of the ILC, I am planning on also joining a volleyball club or getting a job later this semester.

If I am able to join a volleyball club nearby, I hope to spend at least six or more hours playing a week.

I plan on balancing these activities by staying ahead in all my classes and making whatever I do a priority.

While in high school I was a part of several sports teams including School volleyball, travel volleyball, school softball, travel softball, track, and cross country. I also took part in competing in my school’s DECA program.

If I happened to join any school club it would most likely be the volleyball club. I would join because volleyball is one of my favorite sports.  Being a part of a team, practicing, and competing is where I’ve made some of my closest friends and I would love to have that here.

  1. Major/Career

My intended major is nursing. When I was younger I always played around and acted as if I was a nurse with all my family members that’s one of the reasons I decided to pursue nursing. When I got older, I still had the same love for helping people and making people feel better or just making someone smile. I learned about nursing and realized that it was a possibility for me, and it’s been one of my goals since then.

When I’m doing something that I love I am very passionate and hard-working. I never lack motivation when it comes to dealing with other people.

Before Covid had happened, I was working my way to completing my clinical in order to receive my CNA license. I did my rounds at the early head start and the nursing home, I then had one rotation left at the head start before I could receive my licenses.

I hope to be working as a travel nurse or in a children’s hospital in the next ten years.

  1. Study habits

At this moment I feel like the biggest difference from high school to college is not having teachers that know who you are or how you work. You as the student must take the biggest step and effort in order to do well. And if you need the extra help, you can’t really ask them to slow down or go back.

To me studying and Homework is the same. In order for me to study I have to repetitively write information down and take notes while reading and in my opinion that is the same amount of work and effort as doing homework.

Interpreting the American past: 4/5

Health Professions: 3

Introductory to Chemistry:  2/3

Introductory to Chemistry Lab: 2/3

English Compositions (online): 4/5

Sociology: 4/5

I get distracted very easily and fast, so I study best in places that have no people. I will most likely continue to only study in my room because there is nothing to do there.

I’m very good about telling other people I can’t do something or go out because I have homework, or another thing planned. I also don’t like going to parties so in the future the only distraction I can think of is myself and me getting bored and doing actives in order to distract myself.

In order to keep myself from getting bored, I have to keep reminding myself of the goals that I am working towards. I also call my parents a lot and they also keep me motivated to do good and stay on task.

In the morning because I feel like the information stays with me longer.

Techniques that I’ve learned that help me a lot are writing information down several times, flashcards, and talking out loud.
