Learning Style
- Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?
- My current study habits is that I set certain times for each class. I create Cornell Notes styled notes and go back through each set and annotate and highlight the things of importance. I go through study guides and compare my notes to see if they are compatible. Then go through readings to add extra notes.
- What specific techniques do you use in class? I do use Cornell notes style note taking and make sure everything is labeled to their concept.
- What specific techniques do you use outside of class? Some techniques I use outside of class is go back through reading and make sure I don’t I
- Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101). What study methods work best and why? I like to believe that I am doing really well in my Intro to Chemistry class. I go through the powerpoints completely and write down examples so if I am confused, I can find something similar to help me solve the problem. This actually does help a lot to me because it helps find a solution by looking at similarities.
- Identify one class where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions. The one class I am having trouble with is Sociology. The problems I am having are differing vocabulary that is very similar to each other. I try to use flashcards, but they don’t help me as well. Some strategies I can use is do more practice quizzes for example keeping recharging the quizzes on Connect. I need to study more after I have read the text and spend about an hour going back and finding if I missed something important. I need to focus more on vocabulary than worrying about dates as much. I am not taking as much advantage that is given to me. I can contact my professor if I have issues understanding or find some classmates to help me go over what we are learning to understand better. I do have some lack of motivation, but I do push myself to the best of my abilities. I haven’t had an exam yet in this course, but through other courses, going back through notes and comparing the study guide to it does help.
- Review at least 5 academic tips/resources listed here: https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips What is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material? One new study technique that I looked into was the “study cycle” which is a process of five steps to make sure you are learning and understanding what the learning is trying to teach.
- What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material? One new technique I can use outside of class is working in study groups. We can go over material from previouses classes and we can make sure has an understanding.
